Merry Christmas!

Before I forget, I would like to greet everyone a merry merry Christmas and a much better blessed new year to come! This year has been great for me and my family in all aspects I can think of- there were more ups than downs and I am glad and grateful with what has been going on (looks like our family is expanding......). I hope you have had a good one as well. Cheers!!!

Gone Baby Gone

Just learned last night that our Doberman-Rottweiler dog Ranza (short for Esperanza) passed away already one month ago. Do not really know the reason why my parents kept it a secret for a long time although her death was kind of expected. She had a big tumor on her breast for at least half a year more likely because she has had approximately 2 dozen breastsucking puppies. She was supposed to have an operation with American veterinarian volunteers some time ago but since she arrived late -our other dogs got some rabbies shots first- she missed the chance. :(

Will definitely miss her. She was a kind, intelligent, and loyal friend. And now we are left with three dogs who think and act like humans and not guard dogs.

L'Opera

We had relatives from Cebu coming for my cousin's wedding tonight. After fetching them from the airport yesterday, we had lunch at an Italian restaurant in the Fort, the same block as the Embassy. The place was recommended by a friend because the day before, I was panicking where to take the guests. Since there are so many places here worth trying, my friend gave me a short list of restos. L'Opera was the perfect choice. I read some great reviews on the internet and coming from my favorite and trusted bloggers Anton, Lori (of dessertcomesfirst), and MM, I knew the choice would not disappoint me.

The place was beautiful. Very warm and cozy. Perfect for dates, I am sure. We sat at the corner. (See pictures taken by Lori here http://www.dessertcomesfirst.com/?p=308. By the way, the table shown was where we exactly ate).

Moving on. For a group of five plus a kid, we ordered two Trittico della casa (choice of three pastas, six in all). I loved the ones with duck, clams, different types of cheeses, and truffle sauce. They had so many pastas to choose from that I am sure the waiter got confused as my sister and I changed our orders every time we see something we liked trying. We also had L'Opera pizza which was served with a generous amount of cheese. For the main course, we ordered Tagliata ol manzo -beef was very tender!

The food was more than enough for us all although the kid preferred Filipino style spaghett she is used to eating at fast food chains.

Overall, L'Opera is highly recommended. :) Although a bit pricey, it is worth it with the quality of dishes you get.

Enchanting...

I watched The Enchanted today with my younger sister. At first, I was hesitant to see it because I thought it was another kiddie film, did not have a good story and was just relying on Mcdreamy's charms to capture its audience. But then, on its second week at the cinemas, and without other films to watch (have seen The Golden Compass which was not as good as expected, do not like serious films like Elizabeth), my sister and I bought tickets and seated ourselves on the last few rows of the theater to get the full screen view.

Admittedly, I liked the film. It is a fairy tale for children and adults alike with a romantic-musical-comedy theme. I had a good laugh when Giselle cleaned Robert's house with the help of all sorts of animals and insects, how she uses any cloth (i.e. curtains) she could get her hands on for her dress, and the park scene where everybody was singing and dancing along. Robert's daughter was also cute and lovable (who used her daddy's credit card for 'emergeny' shopping). The turning point was when the prince sang but Giselle failed to sing the duet with him- a sign showing she found her true love in someone else. Definitely recommended.

Extended

I changed my flight date to Albay yesterday from December 20 to December 25.

Initially, the plan was just to attend our company Christmas party on the 19th then go home to the province the next day. But then, our party got moved because of the Peninsula incident (changed venue to the Intercontinental as well). Since I was so sad that I could not attend that plus other parties after the 20th including my cousin's wedding and have been thinking about what I am about to miss everyday, I decided to move my flight to Christmas day and shorten my vacation (yes, I am still going to work even if I am on leave already since I am here anyway and this is despite my work leaves expiring next year).

I am so sure this would be worth it! :)

Officially Christmas

It is the second day of December, 23 more to Christmas day.

I love Christmas- so much food, so many parties and events. I love the weather and I also love the fact that everyone are in the spirit of giving. Have you noticed? The most special part of course are family and friends' get togethers.

The other day, my sister and I went to the grocery to buy the usual one-month food supply. The place was packed and we had to wait for at least 30 minutes to the counter. In our house, it is that time when the kitchen is so busy with all the cooking and baking. Food is a bit overwhelming and it is hard to follow a strict diet because it is difficult to turn down all the yummy food.

Is there such a thing called the Christmas traffic? They should probably coin that term. It has been as busy as ever on the streets and in the malls. Everyone seems to be carrying their shopping and grocery bags and snaking their way through the crowd.

Expect busier days ahead! Merry Christmas all!

The Wizard of Oz 2.0

The Tin Man, a six hour fantasy mini series, is airing on the Sci-Fi Channel in December. A modern Wizard of Oz complete with the original cast the Lion, Scarecrow, Tin Man, Toto, the Good and Wicked Witch, and don't forget our oh-so-beloved character Dorothy- a motorcycle riding waitress here-a different story with slightly different characters but of the same heart. Truly, a
spiced-up version on one of our childhood favorites.

Is My Life at Risk?

Although I do not imagine myself to stay on my current job in the long run(2 years at most), I was a bit alarmed after I read an article in CNN linking night job with increasing the risk of cancer.

First of all, I work as a Business Process Analyst for Management Reporting in Citibank for the North America region. Given that, for month-end reporting on the first few business days of the month, we have to work on a night shift to meet our internal clients' demands.

Anyway, from what I read, it seems that there are more recent evidence showing that men/women are more likely to develop prostate/breast cancer from working in a graveyard shift.

Why? One factor is that working on an opposite shift disrupts the body clock and melatonin, a cancer suppressant, is usually produced overnight. Working overnight also lowers the immune system's defense.

It is interesting to learn that melatonin is produced in the dark so people who work on these shifts are advised to sleep in a dark room when they get off work during the day to keep the body from the risk of cancer.

The Click Five - Jenny

Music Makes the People Come Together...Yeah!

I love music.

See...my blog title comes from Gwen Stefani's popular song Hollaback Girl. She is one of my favorite artists (alongside Kelly Clarkson, Rihanna, Fergie among others) because of her unique style in singing and for giving the audience fresh tracks each and every time.

I am the type to have a favorite song of the moment. It was Beautiful Girl, then Umbrella, Big Girls Don't Cry and so on. And now, I am singing Baby Love, Clumsy, Jenny, and Hate that I Love You.

Must admit I am not a good singer. I only imagine myself to be. Haha. Still. I love singing to my favorite tunes. It makes me feel better and have a lighter mood. It helps removes stress and anger and makes me feel and think more positive. I am honestly a little off sometimes, but everything's relative right?

Ghosttown

HEADLINE: An Oakwood mutiny sequel. Trillanes and a group of people renewed their call for PGMA's ouster and called for withdrawal of people's support to the current government.

Morning of Thursday, I thought it was just the usual protest or walkout from courtroom or whatever you like to call it. I really thought that it would not be making a big fuss.
By late afternoon, we knew it was not a small ordeal. Poor Manila Peninsula (with above 70% occupancy) had to be evacuated! I feel especially sorry for the couple who was having their wedding reception. The SENATOR and his men have already taken over the hotel. Tanks and soldiers were surrounding the hotel perimeter as well as media men. The 3 PM deadline was not met to restore order. I am not well-informed on details about the tear gas, gun shots, etc. Anyway, tension waned before 6 PM and I heard it was because Trillanes did not want to hurt civilians inside-out.

While most of the offices closed early for a longer-than-expected long weekend, our manager went outside to check the situation (our office is walking distance from the hotel). Seeing that there is no need to panic and that it is more dangerous to rush home during the critical moment, he ordered and reminded us that it was business as usual and that we would be retaining the 9-6 office hours.

Employees at the company were in a frenzy. I personally kept my screen on inquirer.net for updates and kept chatting with my teammate C who had meebo updates from her friends and got calls from her mother with TV updates. My parents were worried sick but I assured them it was nothing.

By the time I went home, the streets in Makati were empty. The ever-busy city became a ghosttown yesterday and everything was quiet. You will remember you are in Manila when you get back to EDSA where traffic was terrible even at 10pm. Manila...Manila...I keep coming back to Manila...

Minor Repair

Just changed my blog header to something more "me". Before, I used "Welcome to my Life" which was as general as any blog title could get. Obviously, this blog is all about me, what I like, and everything else I want to share with everyone. I guess the title above is more fitting.

I ain't your hollaback girl. I never was and never will be or want to be because I don't need to be a hollaback girl to be special. I am who I am. And this is what people like about me (if they do at all...hehe...).

Cheers! and Happy Thanksgiving by the way. :)

Coffee Time

I love Lisa Cullen's Time column Work in Progess. The author writes about work trends and other related stuff which I can very much relate to. This week, she talks about gender discrimination in Starbucks- in summary, women are served 20 seconds longer than men. Hmmm...Unfair!

A Generous Heart

In a period when the "rich becomes richer and the poor becomes poorer" so it goes, it is nice to hear that some of those who have acquired massive wealth remember to give back to the poor through foundations, etc. It is even more admirable that some of these people do so without announcing or proclaiming their good deeds.

Someone called 'Anonymous Friend' gave $100 million to some 46 charities. So thank you, A.F.! In the spirit of 'paying it forward', I know this deed would go a long long way.

About Chocolate

Did you know that recent research suggests that chocolate was discovered 500 years earlier than it is commonly known (about 3000 years ago)? Archaeologists studied ruins of pots from Honduras and found a chemical linked with cacao plants. From the pot form, chocolate was said to be served on important occasions.

To be shot in Australia, the movie stars Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman and the Martian Manhunter.
As in any superhero movie, the film is about the battle of our favorite superheroes against the evil forces. Jessica Biel has reportedly turned down the role of Wonder Woman. No casting has been made official.

An addition of mathematicians
An annoyance of mobile phones
A column of architects

Do Not Torture My Chicken!

Pinikpikang manok. I was reminded of the dish on a recent article by MarketManila and have heard about it previously on TV featured on some documentary. For those who are not familiar with the delicacy, see below description/procedure from edwink:

"A delicacy to the Igorot (local tribes men) the "pinikpikang manok" is prepared by hitting a live chicken with a small stick again and again until it dies. Then it is roasted over open fire, and it's feathers plucked by hand. Roasted until it turns a bit brown, they cook it in different ways "Tinola" boiled in soup with ginger or "Adobo" cooked in soy sauce. They say the pinikpikang manok is very tasty. I never tried it. Hehehe... ;) "

If this is the way it is prepared, then I do not want to eat pinikpikang manok (or baboy, baka, etc.) no matter how exotic and delicious they say it is particularly because of the distinct taste and blackened meat from beating. No to animal cruelty! It is hard itself to be a vegan, so I allow myself to eat some fish and meat. But to the extent of torturing these animals to death just to achieve a taste is going overboard already.

I'm Coming...I'm Coming Out!

Dumbledore is gay! That's right. The old wizard fell in love with rival Gellert Grindelwald according to the HP author JK Rowling.

This Should Not Have Happened...

I know a lot has been written (err...blogged) and said about the Glorietta blast -more likely a bombing- last Friday but I just would like to say that amidst all the progress the country has made so far, an act of terrorism is not needed to add to the political show (PGMA-JDV rift in connection to the ZTE deal, Palace hand off of envelopes containing a sum of money , etc.) we are having among other problems such as high oil prices.

I condemn the act of whoever placed explosive materials in the mall killing some ten people and injuring more than thirty with damage hitting to around a hundred million. But then again, I believe this is in connection to government's indifference and lack of action towards the issues faced by its citizens. I suppose this is the latter's way of calling the state's attention.

So, to the government and I am not generalizing, please be good to us? Better yet, be the best!Because it is you we look up to and depend upon. We as citizens are trying the best on our part also.

I am a speaking as a Filipino already doubtful of my security as well as other's to wherever I may go. As a frequent rider of the MRT (which I use to get to work), the transit may be one of the next targets as it is a very crowded area. A stampede caused by panic alone could kill you.

Life goes on for a commoner as me. If it's your time, no matter how hard you try to avoid death, it will claim you...

My Girl- Grows Up!

Anna Chlumsky best known for playing Vada opposite Macaulay Culkin in My Girl (1&2) is engaged to a soldier of Chinese lineage. Best part is that the food is going to be great as both the bride's and groom's parents are chefs.

MY GIRL (Temptations)

I've got sunshine on a cloudy day.
When it's cold outside I've got the month of May.
I guess you'd say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl (my girl, my girl)
Talkin' 'bout my girl (my girl).

I've got so much honey the bees envy me.
I've got a sweeter song than the birds in the trees.
I guess you'd say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl (my girl, my girl)
Talkin' 'bout my girl (my girl).

Hey hey hey
Hey hey hey
Ooooh.

I don't need no money, fortune, or fame.
I've got all the riches baby one man can claim.
I guess you'd say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl (my girl, my girl)
Talkin' 'bout my girl (my girl).

I've got sunshine on a cloudy day
with my girl.
I've even got the month of May
with my girl (fade)

Take My Breath Away

Wow Philippines! I believe in this statement. Philippines for me is one of the richest countries in the world when it comes to natural resources and scenic spots. Our beaches are by far some of the most beautiful.

Here's an article I read on inquirer.net on Palawan. Apparently, the feature on the island garnered the highest ratings on a French TV show.

Of Cereals and Leftover Milk

I was eating cereal for dinner yesterday when I recall a habit of mine from way back.

During my younger days, I used to soak and bath my cereal with milk so that the taste would stay with the milk and I would end up eating the soft and mushy lump of cereal. The best part is drinking the milk afterwards-by then, it is flavored milk. I particularly like doing this when I am eating Coco Pops so that I will end up with chocolate milk (put lots of Coco Pops to get a darker chocolate milk). Yummy.

Certainly, that was when I was younger. Now, I enjoy my cereal just as it should be. Crispy and crunchy, with cold milk.

*By the way, I also have a weird habit with powdered milk. I would not fully dilute the milk with water. I just put as much milk on my glass and pour water (without mixing) and then glass up! I love spooning the milk which stays at the bottom of my glass.

If I was a Rich Girl...

Josh Groban is coming to Manila! This is not something new, of course, but the reality of the event is sinking in now that Babyface has arrived in the country. I want to watch his concert on October 18 at the PICC but I heard the cheapest tickets (P3000) have already been sold out and it is something I cannot afford now even with the 10% discount Citibankers get. Hayyy...these are the moments I wish I was a rich girl. To hear Josh's voice must be heavenly. And to see him is definitely once in a lifetime. :(

Choosing a Book, Angels and Demons-the Movie

I am brand conscious especially when it comes to books. I read only those written by well-known authors or authors whose books I have read and liked. When I was a kid, I bought a book based on its summary at the back cover and did not finish the book after reading only a few pages. And even those books claiming they are international bestsellers or are part of the local bookstore's bestseller lists are not at all good reads. So I stick to reading the works of some of the well-known authors like Judith Mcnaught, Sophie Kinsella, and Dan Brown. I do not like David Sedaris and Paulo Coelho (save for The Alchemist).
In Dan Brown's case, I have read all of his books except for the Digital Fortress which I am planning to read sometime soon. I am excited to learn the he is writing another book The Solomon Key out in 2008 . The same year the movie based on (and entitled) Angels and Demons is set for release with Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon again (whoa! the hairstyle!).

Finally! Someone Who Admits She's a Gold Digger

Here's a good read on "The Economics of Gold Digging". Briefly, it is about a "gold digger" who posts an ad in search of a guy who makes half a million dollars annually. She gets the answer she deserves.

http://freakonomics.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/10/09/the-economics-of-gold-digging/#more-1954

As a background, I took AB Economics as a second course in college. Hence, I have taken more Economics classes than the normal student would have. I frequent Freakonomics.com, even before they joined NY Times. The site was born after the phenomenal success of the book Freakonomics which I am planning to buy but is always out of stock. If you think Economics is just theoritical, think again, because the book will give you insight on how everyday Economics works. If you had not had enough, there is a sequel coming up entitled Superfreakonomics.

By the way, you can get a free signed book plate, just register(I have not received mine, but nothing to lose when you try, right?). The authors also respond to your emails (hehe...I tried writing them and they answered back, I was starstrucked!).

SVH

I came across the word Palisades just now (from people.com) and memories of my teenage years flash back. Palisades High was one of the school features in the Sweet Valley High pocketbook series.

If you were born in the '80s, that makes you a teen by the '90s, you surely did not miss reading at least one Sweet Valley High pocketbook. Who does not know Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield? And Todd and Ken, their high school sweethearts? Or Lila Fowler, the rich bestfriend/close competition of Jessica when it comes to boys? One simply identifies with either or both the twins.

Elizabeth was always described as the tamer twin. She was a classic blonde and did well in school, writing in the school paper etc. Jessica on the other hand was more into cheerleading than studies. She loves clothes and boys.

I remember that the books come in three, with Part 1, 2 & 3 forming one story. There were also the Special Editions like Elizabeth's and Jessica's Diaries among others. And then it became a TV series due to popularity. I think that was the time the cover of SVH had pictures of real people in place of colored sketches. And the Daniel's twins become the Wakefield twins themselves (I find them fitting for the role, they are equally beautiful and blonde). There were other versions of SVH, the Sweet Valley University, Sweet Valley Jr, the Unicorn Club to name some.

We had quite a collection and I would like to think we had at least half of the total published. We arranged them by number to make it easy to search for the next part. I was still studying in the province at that time and there was always eagerness and excitement when I knew my sisters would come home for their school break in Manila (where they were taking their secondary education) and I was sure they would be bringing new SVH books with them.

Some of my favorite stories was when Jessica dated someone from Palisade who later died from a gang fight (or was it a car crash?). That was when the emotional side of Jessica showed that she is not just your typical blonde cheerleader. I also liked it when they had their high school prom (oh, I wish I had one!) and the time when Elizabeth and Jessica went abroad for internship and dated royalties.

I am not sure when I stop reading pocketbooks- was it Francine Pascal did less follow ups on the lives of the Wakefield twins or did it end when my young heart found something else to take interest in?

The Age-Old Question...

Why is it that when you have so much of one thing, you ignore it? And when it is gone, you want it so bad? To rephrase, why do humans want what they do not have?

I ask the question because I was surprised to have eaten ten mini chocolates today plus some M&Ms.

Just to give a brief background, an officemate of mine recently won a trip for three to NYC. As a coming home present to our team, she bought a variety pack of Mars mini chocolates (Snickers, Milky Way, Twix, and 3 Musketeers)and an XXL bag of M&Ms dark chocolate candies. I had some. And then some more.

To tell the truth, my sisters and I are very picky with food. And desserts are not an exception. We prefer the more popular brands -also because they have better quality. Since we have tried some of the best ones within our reach, our standards are upped. Hershey's Kisses which we rarely had when we were younger are now something ignored. We also used to love donuts (specifically, choco butternut) but because there are more options now and for health reasons, we do not even dare have a bite of this sinful delight.

Going back, if those chocolates were at home, it would not be moved from it's place in the fridge until before they expire and maybe even when they have gone bad already which is when we throw them away.

Why the difference in behavior? (Psychologists, please help!)

See our fridge?

What a collection! (I am sure you have yours too!)

I predict my sister plans on making homemade icecream this weekend.(Proof:the ice cream maker ready for action!)

I am never going hungry.

By the way, those cold treats were something my sisters insisted on buying and which I also wanted to buy. And now, after a month or two, they still have not been fully consumed. Those chocolates would soon be one year tenants inside our chiller.

We have better kinds of chocolates at home which we barely touch. How is it that I ate ten at the office today? Surely not because of stress.

I hope you do not think I am a shallow person coming up with this long entry just because of food. The question definitely applies to life in general. I do not wish to elaborate. You can do it on your own.

And so, I come up with an answer to my own question. Why is it that when you have so much of one thing, you ignore it? And when it is gone, you want it so bad?? Why do men want what they do not have?

I believe everybody is guilty of not living the moment because we are either too busy dwelling with what cannot be undone or planning for the future. When the "present" is gone, that is when we realize what we lost and then we want it back. Same with people. I am sure there is a long list of people with whom you want to spend some time, if only for one more day, or hour.

Going back with the chocolates, the more probable reason is with the human nature that men are hard to satisfy. We cannot be content with what we have and so wish for something more and something we see in other people (jealousy, envy). We want security, security that we have something at home which we can have when we want it and how we want it.

I hope I made sense.

A Piece of Cake

It is not just a piece of cake. It is a piece of CHOCOLATE cake.

I have always been fond of chocolates- in any shape, size, or color. Over the years, I have acquired a more defined taste. I like some chocolates, others I do not. Whether it be in any form-tablea for my oatmeal (aka champorado), chocolate bars, in cookies, as an ice cream flavor, topping, cakes- as long as it is good chocolate, I will have it. There are times though when I have had too much and need to rest my taste buds. But chocolate is as certain in my life as breath and blood are. And at the end of the day, it is still chocolate I love.

Today, the last slice of cake from my youngest sister's debut has been eaten. I love the cake because it is moist and the icing is made of meringue (the same kind I had for my 18th birthday and which I single handedly consumed). After two weeks of having one slice of cake for dessert every night, reality has sinked in that tomorrow there will be none for dessert. How boring that will be!

It is funny I was thinking a while back that I have two options

(1) Wait for another occasion and request for the cake to be made of chocolate so that we will have some in the fridge after the party.
(2) Buy one even without any occasion just to have something to satisfy my craving.

You may ask why not buy the usual cake from the bakeshop. Well, simply because I like the meringue instead of the more commonly used butter icing, and cakes with meringues are rare. Besides, I think the cake is better and less commercialized when you order it ahead instead of the ready made ones.

How will I have my chocolate tomorrow? We will see then...

Look What I Found

These are the one of the hottest accessories to date. Long necklaces. A gold and silver one in my closet are perfect to pair with any outfit and glam up on the look.

One of the Things I Learned...

Is to speak up.

Stay humble always but never take the blame for something you did not do. I have been a quiet person since I can remember but that should not hinder me from speaking up in times I should be defending myself.

There are always people pointing fingers at you. It is really okay to admit you have done wrong but to take responsibility for an offense you did not commit is just not right because it is contrary to what you know for yourself.

In the past, in instances where people say I did this or that, I have always kept my mouth shut for some reasons such as I do not want to argue anymore, God knows who did it, or I do not care what people say. Thus, becoming a martyr.

At work recently, one of the things one of my team leaders have taught me is to communicate. Because if you keep quiet, no one is going to speak up for you other than you youself. So speak up for people to understand you and not think bad about you and assume you are the criminal. Becoming a martyr does not get you anywhere. Assess the situation, and if you know you are right, speak up! Because it is so wrong not to.

He's Just not that into You

I can not wait to watch this in the big screen. Produced by Flower Films and starring Drew Barrymore, my ultimate idol, there's more reason to watch the movie because of its power cast which includes Jennifer Aniston, Scarlett Johannson, Jennifer Connelly, Ben Affleck and more.

The movie is based on the best seller self-help book of the same title and is out in theaters in 2009. Shooting already began on September 10. The story, by the way, is inspired by an episode of the popular Sex and the City series "Pick-A-Little, Talk-A-Little".

*Flower Films is Drew's own production outfit which produced Never Been Kissed, Charlie's Angels, 50 First Dates, and other Drew Barrymore movies.

What's on Your TV? (part 1)

One of the greatest inventions of all time is the television. How many households do not have one? They may not have a telephone, refrigator, and a personal computer (mobile phone, maybe yes!) but TV, definitely a must. In fact, one of the first things an overseas worker buy with his money is a TV, a big big one or a flat screen even to boast of his new lifestyle. I love TV myself and even if there are no watchable shows on air, I have a compulsive habit of switching from one channel to the other. Just a trivia I read somewhere but am unable to cite the source because I forgot where I read it, that in US alone, the number of television sets outnumber the population 1.5:1.

So with this and because we are TV-loving creatures, I am going to list down some of my favorite shows. The more popular ones, I will exclude from this list because they are obviously on everybody else's "favorite TV shows" list. Who does not recognize and watch the highly creative and well-plotted primetime shows (courtesy of cable channels) Lost, Grey's Anatomy, 24, Alias, Heroes, CSI, Sex and the City, Desperate Housewives, Nip Tuck, Smallville, American Idol, and Friends to name some.

I have been wanting to write this entry down for quite some time now. Here is MY list of current favorites shows (TV personalities included):

TONIGHT SHOW WITH JAY LENO AND LATE NIGHT WITH CONAN O' BRIEN. I love the wit of these two comedians more than that of David Letterman or Jon Stewart. Although late night talk shows have very similar formats, these two guys deliver their lines so well it is as if they know what your funny bones are. Their monologues and stand up jokes at the start of the show are hilarious and the different segments are very entertaining. Interviews with celebrity guest stars are also excellent.

Special mention is "The Max Weinberg 7" from Conan. Max the drummer and Conan click when the poke fun at each other. One time Max was made to wear diapers. Hehe. And considering his age, you do not want him to repeat that stint again. Conan's wiggly hair and funny face add to the comedy.

By the way, Jay collects cars and Conan will be taking over Jay's show in 2009 when the latter retires. Jimmy Fallon will succeed Conan on his show.

Chocolates for Free, Anyone???

To say that I simply love chocolate is an understatement. I LooOoOOve chocolate!!!

Give me local or imported chocolate, I'll take it without hesitation. Although I prefer some more than others (I like truffles, and dark or milk chocolate over white chocolate), in general, any type or brand would do. With or without nuts, caramel, marshmallow, etc. As a drink, flavor in ice cream, in cookies, or as a topping. I'll eat Flat Tops, Curly Tops, Chocnut. I'll also have Lindt, Ghirardelli, Dove, Godiva, Cadbury, etc.

Believe it or not, I once thought about writing a book on chocolate specifically the types of chocolate all over the world but was disheartened yet unsurprised to learn that a lot have been said about this favorite food/flavor.

And for chocolate lovers, here's another good news. Check into the Hershey's Lodge in Pennsylvania and you'll get unlimited chocolates for free!

Josh Hartnett (Title Catchy Enough to Read this Entry)

Who doesn't know about Josh Hartnett shooting in Diwalwal in Mindanao? Anyway, he's soo cute! He had me way back in his Wicker Park days. There's something mysterious with the guy that you'll go ga-ga for.

I hope he likes it here and comes back (and bring the rest of the his pals). His local staff says he's down to earth, no pa-artista-effect in terms of food (he even asks people around if they'd eaten already), etc. Considering his Hollywood fame/status, he is something.

Time to Get a False Teeth?

I don't need dentures. I have a perfect set of teeth.

Now, why do I always dream of losing my tooth/teeth or falling teeth? It's one of those dreams I can always remember when I get up.

I searched the web and came across an article about this. It says falling teeth is a sign that (1) you're too conscious about how you appear reason being you use your teeth when smiling, etc. (2) worry or anxiety from embarrassment or making a fool of yourself (3) sense of powerlessness because teeth are a sign of power (chew, bite, etc.) -also add in inferiority, lack of confidence (4) traditionally, it signifies malnutrition (definitely not for me!).

Other interpretations include that God speaks to you in the dream to tell you that you rely so much on what man thinks than His words. In other cultures, it can be that a family member is very sick (Greek) or that you're telling lies (Chinese). My Tooth Fairy says falling teeth symbolizes money.

I'm having this dream because of a mix of all the interpretations above. For whatever reason for it, having the dream itself IS a reason to look at my life in its entirety and see how it's going. I wouldn't have those dreams for nothing right?

I'm not a Celebrity, so Stop Talking about Me!

It's funny how people make stories about you.

The latest I've heard about me is that I have a boyfriend already. Har-di-har-har! Completely untrue although I wish it were.

Some neighbors should stop nosing around other people's lives. They did that to me and they don't even know who I am. And these rumors have reached my Aunt.

Well, anyway, I shouldn't let this affect me because I'm a hundred percent sure it's false. I don't even know what the basis is for this news. It says I have a Citibanker boyfriend, so where exactly is he? I'm curious. Hope he looks good.

How to react when my sister had a sit-down with me to personally ask if this were true? I was half hysterical because it's out of this world and half defensive because I not the type of person to hide anything from anyone anymore.

A warning to people who have neighbors who love to mess with other people's lives.

Archers File Protest; Decision out Monday

Apparently, there is a UAAP rule which states that "no two foreigners can play at the same time". Did ADMU violate that rule? I hope not. Click on the link for more details. (Blog title taken from the same article-just making sure I don't plagiarise).

The Tradition that is the Ateneo-La Salle UAAP Games

And then there were two.

The Ateneo-La Salle matches are always the most exciting ones in a UAAP season even surpassing that of the best of three finals (that is, if they're not competing head to head for the top positions as well, which is far more exciting because of the risk of the UAAP crown and the bragging rights the school gets). With the suspension last year, I was both happy that there is justice and disappointed because I wouldn't be able to see the arch-enemies and rivals play.

I remember when I was a freshman (at ADMU) and got the chance of watching the two championship games we won (Hey, I got to sing the school song so proudly I literally held my head high). You can really feel the school spirit inside the the Araneta Coliseum where it's all green and blue and the crowds roar with every shot and are tense with every second. People outside would know by the looks of the faces of the audience which school won when the spectators rush out of the arena after the final scores have been announced.

It's always hard to get tickets on at least two games/season that the two teams beat each one out. So sometimes, it's better watching them on TV than being stuck in the traffic in Cubao before and after the game. But given the chance, I'd still watch it live because it's really different when you're THERE.

I was able to catch the first and last few minutes of the game last Thursday when it ended with an overtime. I was in a hurry to go home so didn't watch the OT anymore.

Anyway, we won! Yehey! UAAP is not UAAP without Ateneo-La Salle games (admit it non-Ateneans and non-LaSallites!). There were smale scale betting in the office. So many who went to the pantry on the last minutes of the game. Watching it on TV with fellow Ateneans and LaSallites was enjoyful. Our team should do more practice so that we'll still win on the next game. Make us proud!

I have nothing wrong against La Salle. It's all a game, no more and nothing personal. At the end of the day, La Salle was sorely missed last season so welcome back and see you in the next game!

This is THE UAAP tradition- Ateneo-La Salle games. When everyone gathers in front of the TV and cheer for their teams! There will always be betting, the whole family going to the Araneta and filling it up at the few rare occasions, politicians and stars watching the game, scalpers with overpriced tickets (how did they manage to have their hands on those tickets? Insider perhaps), fights among players during and outside the games, shouting and cursing of the coaches which eventually lead to technical fouls, students and alumni buying player jerseys and jackets and wearing face paint, kids who haven't reached high school but have been exposed and are trained to side with a team, some people taking it too personally while others are indifferent. I'm loving all of these.

ONE BIG FIGHT!

Clean up your closet. It's time to let go...

No. This is nothing deep. I mean the statement literally. Go to your closet, and separate those items of clothing you don't wear. I know. I know. Sometimes, it's hard to let go of some pieces, for sentimental reasons probably. But hello?! If there's holes on it here and there, then throw it away (or use it as a rag or something). If the hole is not that big, maybe you could give it away to less fortunate relatives perhaps, to orphanages or to other organizations-they'd be happy to have that shirt which has been sitting on your cabinet for who knows how many months or years (does it even fit you?). But if it has so big of a hole, then please, do not, i repeat, do not donate it.

My sisters (I have 3) and I have a number of closets for all our stuffs. We share most of the clothes like pants and blouses (lucky, things fit for all of us, huh?) so it's okay. In the recent months however, our wardrobe count have increased geometrically with all the purchases my eldest sister Jany have made. Not that we have so many clothes; but, we don't get rid of stuff that easily, unless necessary of course. Well, now we have to, because it's so hard when it's full of stuff you don't wear.

When the clothes do not fit you right, don't put it in your closet. For me, it's better that you have a closet with a few things that look good on you than with so many others which just don't look right. If it's something you think you'll wear again, then think of when the last time you wore that shirt. If it's too long ago, don't think twice on it because more likely than not, you won't wear it anymore.

But classic pieces. Jeans with nice cuts that fit right. Blouses that you can wear over and over again (the plain ones) and flatter your body type. Invest on those and even dresses- you'll never know when the next affair would be. And with shoes, well, make sure you have a comfy flat pair you can wear for malls or for long walks and which you could use with that nice dress you have.

Believe me. It feels so good when you feel good about yourself which you will definitely feel when you look good. It's time to clean up that closet of yours.

Tammy Faye is dead

The day after that interview where I first and last saw her, Tammy Faye died. Could it be that her family knew it (you know what) was coming and then request for ET to do one last interview? Hmmm...May her soul rest in peace and may she have that juicy hamburger she craves at last.

Eat and Die Hard 4.0

Just came home from dinner out and movie with HS friends- my bestest friends. We had a fantastic time as always (Tim-send the pictures soon so I can post it!). Haven't seen them since last month and it's fun to get together again. We celebrated three occasions tonight-two birthdays for Lawrence and Jumie and one to congratulate Kesmin for passing the recent CPA exam. Celebration was simple, just brought some food to Bellevue subdivision's clubhouse and ate everything we can get into our stomach. Hehe. The wait for the latecomer/s (Lawrence-hint hint) was well worth it for all the food prepared (more correctly, ordered). Well, Louise cooked some really yummy stuff for Lawrence - a combination of pasta with basil (sided with bread with blue cheese spread) and tender chicken breasts fried in herbed bread crumbs and baked in tomato sauce and a generous amount of grated cheese. We also had a seafood pizza from Yellow Cab, Mango Bravo from Conti's, and Blueberry cheesecake from Divine Desserts (who supplies to UCC). Unfortunately, near the end of the meal, with all the chit chats we had and all the air in the stomach for laughing hard on jokes (funny, corny or both), we weren't able to touch the pistachio ice cream and salad.

(hiding before Lawrence arrives)
(surprise!!!)
We went straight to Trinoma to catch Die Hard 4.0. The movie was action packed from start to finish. Hang on to your arm rest as Agent Mcclane kills all the bad guys single handedly. Scene to scene, the movie will prove itself worthy of the title. Bruce Willis emerges strong in every one of them, there isn't any point you'll see him tired. I loved the scene where all speeding cars from eastside and westside meet under a tunnel. That's the scene where John Mcclane may have died from car crash and there's a car flying just above him-woohoo! The movie is all about Bruce Willis, I don't like him, but this movie may change my mind. Die hard Mcclane! Surprisingly good!

in·san·i·ty

I learned a new word yesterday at an office Service Excellence training- INSANITY. Today, I know an extended definition of the word which meant just "crazy" to me before.

New definition: "Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result".

Are you insane???

Who is Tammy Faye?

I was watching Entertainment Tonight last night when I caught the news of Tammy Faye's inoperable cancer. I don't want to start blogging on a sad story but I just can't help it. Anyway, when you search her name in google, you'd get about a million pages about her, and I'd usually look for a result from Wikipedia.com since it's more comprehensive. Tammy Faye is a Christian evangelist and TV personality. She is "known for wearing heavy makeup and mascara".

What caught my attention was the fact that in a world and culture that has so many girls obsessing to get thin even when they're not that fat (count me in), there's someone somewhere who can't eat a hamburger but wants to devour one. She's now down to a frail 62 lbs. Check this link: http://www.tammyfaye.com/note20070716.asp

Tammy can't eat much since doing so will give her a hard time breathing. Her colon cancer has now spread to her lungs and is inoperable. She has requested her family not to tell her how long she'll survive. She is a strong woman and believes she'll go straight to heaven after death.

Can't place myself in her shoes. I don't know I would feel if I'm in her place, just waiting for my death sentence, the time when I'd be struggling to breath air, black out and die. On a side note, my grandpa died of the disease a few years back and I dreamt of him last night. I miss him and wish he was here...

New blog

Wow. This blog's neat. I'm loving it. Definitely better than Multiply so I'll switch to this now. I've been looking for a blog where I can post pictures with the blog entry itself. My multiply account doesn't allow that because it separates the pictures from the text. Does it? I'm not so sure since I'm too lazy finding that out and I prefer having things ready to use. So there...

No wonder my eldest sister Janylaine using Blogger...will post entries soon!!! This will be my new home!
